\nOn January 20, 2025, President Donald Trump issued the Protecting the American People Against Invasion<\/strong><\/a> executive order, directing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)<\/strong><\/a> to enforce immigration registration laws more strictly. Specifically, the order mandates compliance with Section 262 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) (8 U.S.C. 1302)<\/strong><\/a>, this new Alien Registration Law requires “aliens” present in the United States for 30 days or more to register with the government. Additionally, failure to comply with this requirement has now been classified as a civil and criminal enforcement priority.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Legal Requirements for Alien Registration<\/h2>\n\t

    Under Section 262 of the INA<\/a>, with limited exceptions, all non-citizens 14 years of age or older who were not fingerprinted or registered when applying for a U.S. visa must register with the government if they remain in the United States for more than 30 days. Additionally, parents or legal guardians must ensure that children under the age of 14 are registered.<\/p>\n

    Furthermore, once an alien child turns 14 years old, they must apply for re-registration and fingerprinting within 30 days of their birthday.<\/p>\n

    After successful registration and fingerprinting (unless waived), DHS will issue evidence of registration. Any alien over the age of 18 must carry this evidence at all times.<\/p>\n
