\nToday, I had the opportunity to join Andreina Gandica on \u201cBuenos D\u00edas Am\u00e9rica\u201d on Univision TUDN to discuss several urgent immigration matters that are impacting our community right now.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

First, we addressed the Trump administration\u2019s request for the Supreme Court to permit the deportation of immigrants to countries that are not their nation of origin. This arose after eight individuals from countries like Cuba, Mexico, Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam were deported to Sudan, and they filed a lawsuit against the U.S. government. The judge ordered that these individuals be returned, but the administration appealed to the Supreme Court. The situation is very delicate, especially when immigrants could be sent to unfamiliar and potentially unsafe countries, far from their culture and language. The case will be important to watch, especially for those who already have final deportation orders and whose home countries are not accepting their return.<\/p>\n

We also talked about the suspension of student visa interviews. The Trump administration is currently pausing interviews worldwide as it considers stricter social media scrutiny for applicants. This pause mostly impacts universities in the United States, which rely on international students for cultural exchange and significant revenue. Although this measure is currently only a pause, it may cause delays for those seeking F-1 visas<\/strong><\/a>, and students may consider studying in other countries.<\/p>\n

For students already in the U.S., there are no changes for now\u2014unless affected by specific issues, such as recent events involving Harvard University. A federal judge paused the attempt to suspend student visas at Harvard, so international students there can continue their studies.<\/p>\n

I also addressed questions about documentation. The Real ID is not enough proof of immigration status if stopped by ICE. It\u2019s essential to carry additional documentation showing your status, such as a green card<\/strong><\/a>, proof of citizenship<\/strong><\/a>, DACA work permit<\/strong><\/a>, or asylum-related documents<\/strong><\/a>. For those with pending U visas<\/strong><\/a>, carrying your “Prima Facie Eligibility”<\/strong><\/a> document along with your license is recommended.<\/p>\n
